This summer marks an exciting moment for photographers of all levels as Oxford’s very first Photomarathon takes place on 25 July 2026. Designed as a fun, creative challenge, the event invites participants to capture 12 photographs across 12 themed topics within 24 hours. The themes will be revealed during the event, encouraging photographers to think on their feet, explore their surroundings, and see familiar places in a completely new way.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Oxford Photomarathon is that it’s open to everyone. Whether you’re a complete beginner using a smartphone or a more experienced photographer with a camera, the event is designed to be accessible and enjoyable. There’s no pressure to produce perfect images - the focus is on creativity, curiosity, and the joy of taking part.
It’s also a great social activity. Many participants choose to take part in groups with friends, family or fellow photographers, turning the day into a shared adventure as they search for inspiration and tackle the themes together.
Although the event is centred around Oxford, you don’t have to be in the city to participate. Photographers can take part from anywhere in the UK - or even around the world - making it easy for anyone to join the challenge.
Whether you’re looking to spark your creativity, try something new, or simply enjoy a day of photography with others, the Oxford Photomarathon promises to be a fun and inspiring experience for all.
