You don’t have to be in Oxford to take part in the Photomarathon
While this Photomarathon is based in the beautiful city of Oxford, one of the most exciting aspects of the event is that you don’t actually have to be in Oxford to take part. The challenge has been designed so that photographers anywhere in the UK - or even around the world - can join in.
On 25 July 2026, participants will be given 12 photography themes and will have 24 hours to capture 12 images, one for each topic. The themes will be revealed during the event, ensuring everyone begins the challenge at the same time and works with the same creative prompts.
This means you can take part from your own town, city, countryside, or coastline. Whether you’re walking through a busy urban street, exploring a quiet village, or photographing landscapes near your home, the challenge becomes an opportunity to see familiar places with fresh eyes.
The flexible format also makes it easy to take part with friends, family, or fellow photographers. Many participants form small groups, turning the day into a shared creative adventure as they interpret the themes together.
For those who are able to visit Oxfordshire, the city offers a wonderful backdrop full of historic streets, riverside views and architectural details, and the towns and villages of Oxfordshire all offer wonderful photo locations. But equally, the spirit of the Photomarathon is about creativity wherever you are.
Photography is universal, and the Oxford Photomarathon celebrates that idea by inviting photographers everywhere to take part in the same challenge, at the same time.
